Charles C. Brown was one of SNS earliest and strongest supporters. As Whitney’s mentor and vocal coach, under whose leadership she sang for close to a decade, he consistently volunteered his musical talents, performing at several home and church seed fundraisers to get SNS off the ground. Most notably, in 2018 Charles founded and co-led with Mimi
Bornstein the Voices United Chorus benefit concert, a 30+ person chorus that learned music while also participating in Allyship trainings and bread-breaking, living out the SNS mission of deep community building toward justice. Whitney still hears from many of the chorus members about how transformative the experience was.
When Charles passed suddenly in 2021, his loss was deeply felt by everyone who knew him. To honor his memory through continued community impact, a mutual friend and SNS supporter generously created the Charles Brown Memorial Fund, which has funded four fellowship placements since 2022. We know Charles would have been proud to support each of these Fellows as well as the missions of the organizations they served.
We are grateful for Charles’ memory, and that this Memorial Fund allows us the opportunity to continue uplifting his name with positivity. Please enjoy a snippet of Charles’ immense talent, singing at our Voices United Community Chorus concert!
